Caperton Tissot
For many years, I have explored a number of not-for-profit organizations, hoping that in some small way, such work would help to make this a better world. Some of these jobs did just that, some decidedly did not.
My first job, assistant photographer at Mystic Seaport, CT., was followed by a succession of occupations from fundraising for environmental preservation to the back and heartbreaking work of nursing; from recruiting physicians to enrolling uninsured children in state-sponsored health care. For more than twelve years, I was able to give free rein to my creative spirit through running my own business, Tissot Pottery. I designed handmade stoneware, wholesaling and retailing it nationwide.
Today, somewhat disillusioned but a bit wiser, I relish the freedom of retirement. I live in the Adirondack wilderness area where, with my husband, I paddle, hike, bike, ski and study the natural history and try to do our share of community volunteering. We are privileged, as well, to enjoy the company of our fine son and daughter, their spouses and four children.
